Meta’s Q3 Results Put AI Ambition and Leadership in Focus

A strong quarter and upbeat holiday-season outlook give Meta room to keep investing in AI, while its leaders face the challenge of turning that investment into durable returns.

Meta reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $64.60 billion, above the $63.37 billion analyst estimate cited by CNBC. Revenue increased 26% year over year, and the company forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $73 billion to $76 billion, with the midpoint ahead of expectations.

For leaders, the more consequential signal is how the company is balancing near-term performance with a costly technology bet. Meta narrowed its full-year capital expenditure outlook to $135 billion to $145 billion as it builds the computing infrastructure needed for AI models and agent products. At the same time, advertising remains its core revenue engine, while newer AI services are still developing as potential businesses.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg described new milestones in the company’s AI work, including Muse products and models. CNBC also reported that Meta’s finance chief said the workforce declined 12% quarter over quarter to 66,000 employees. Those details illustrate a leadership challenge familiar well beyond technology: directing capital and talent toward a long-term strategy while maintaining execution and accountability today.

The takeaway is not simply that Meta is spending more. It is whether the company can translate investment into products people keep using, stronger advertising performance and additional sources of revenue. That question will matter as Meta and other large technology companies report results and explain their AI plans to investors.
